Vineland Transitional Year Residency

The Transitional Year Residency at Inspira Medical Center Vineland in New Jersey builds on medical school graduate education to help clinicians develop the skills they need to become successful PGY1 residents. Residents who complete an accredited Transitional Year residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic or other specialized positions and a subsequent resident program.

A transitional year residency allows medical graduates to explore different medical specialties through rotations, helping them make informed decisions about their future specialization. The program builds a strong foundation in general medicine, enhancing clinical skills and medical knowledge. Its flexibility allows residents to align their studies with individual interests and career goals. The extra year of training helps residents gain confidence, improve their decision-making skills and develop a comprehensive understanding of patient care. Our fully accredited, one-year program offers the benefits of a community-based atmosphere in an academic setting; a dynamic, patient-centered care model; and an emphasis on preventive health care.

Curriculum

The Transitional Year Residency offers a robust curriculum and access to experienced, supportive faculty in convenient locations throughout South Jersey. Each specialty program includes weekly didactics, attending and guest lecturers, clinical experiences and sessions in our procedure labs and simulation center.

The Transitional Year curriculum provides core internship rotations as well as customization to fit an individual resident’s unique needs and interests. Our goal is to mold residents into adaptable physicians competent in patient care and equipped to thrive in today’s health care arena.

Rotations in Clinical Practice

Required rotations in clinical practice include Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Urgent Care. 

Longitudinal Experiences

Externships are open to all osteopathic students. Responsibilities include attending all assigned rounds, workshops, journal clubs and lectures; call responsibilities; office rotations with physicians in the residency program; and assisting and observing orthopedic surgery procedures. 

Inspira Committees

Residents have the opportunity to participate in several committees and Inspira-wide initiatives, including the Graduate Medical Education Committee, Resident Town Hall Committee and Wellness Committee.
