About the Mullica Hill Neurology Residency

Inspira’s Neurology Residency provides residents with learning opportunities that integrate various patient care experiences and advanced practice settings across South Jersey.

With comprehensive curricula and dedicated faculty, our residency programs focus on industry-leading research, cutting-edge treatment methods and safe, high-quality patient care.

What makes our residency program unique is the variety of our patient population, which serves as the foundation for a comprehensive educational experience. Serving patients from Salem and Gloucester counties in New Jersey, Inspira’s commitment to the local community ensures exposure to patients from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of neurological conditions.

Neurology residents at Inspira Health experience the best of both worlds: A robust curriculum focused on inpatient and outpatient community neurology complemented by ample exposure to subspecialty and tertiary care. All faculty are devoted to teaching and representing a broad range of general neurologists and neurology subspecialists.

A core group of dedicated neurohospitalists supervises inpatient services and is available 24/7 to offer residents supervision and guidance. Our expanding pool of outpatient faculty represents the breadth of neurological subspecialties, ensuring residents receive instruction that spans the full spectrum of neurological disorders.

Program partnerships include Cooper University Health Care, Nemours Children’s Health and the NeuroMusculoskeletal Institute (NMI) at the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. These affiliations provide residents with opportunities for tertiary care rotations, subspecialty training and unique clinical experiences.

Curriculum

The Neurology Residency offers a robust curriculum and access to experienced, supportive faculty in convenient locations throughout South Jersey. Each specialty program includes weekly didactics, attending and guest lecturers, clinical experiences and sessions in our procedure labs and simulation center.

The curriculum is thoughtfully structured to provide residents with extensive outpatient and elective time, empowering them to customize their learning plans based on their interests and career goals. This flexibility allows residents to refine their skills across the spectrum of neurological subspecialties while ensuring a comprehensive training experience.

The program curriculum is designed with key goals in mind to ensure residents develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become highly competent neurologists. These objectives include:

  • Graduating neurologists with comprehensive knowledge of neurological disorders, enabling them to independently practice general neurology in inpatient and outpatient settings or pursue subspecialties of their choice.
  • Promoting wellness in our residents by encouraging techniques and behaviors that foster personal well-being and acknowledging that our own health is essential for delivering excellent patient care.
  • Inspiring residents to advocate for systemic change, eliminate health care disparities and promote positive health outcomes.
  • Developing the ability to self-evaluate and continuously improve through lifelong learning.
  • Equipping residents with the skills to locate, appraise and apply evidence-based medical literature to improve patient outcomes.

By fostering these values and goals, our residency program aims to shape well-rounded, compassionate neurologists prepared to make significant contributions to patient care and the field of neurology.

Rotations in Clinical Practice

Required clinical rotations include General Neurology Service, Consult Service, Outpatient Neurology, Neuro-Critical Care, Stroke, Child Neurology, Psychiatry and Continuity Clinic.

Elective rotations may include Neuromuscular and Electromyography (EMG), Epilepsy and Electroencephalogram (EEG), Movement Disorders, Neuro-Radiology, Neurosurgery, Pain and Headache, Neuro-Immunology and Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuro-Ophthalmology, and Research.

Longitudinal Experiences

Inspira residents benefit from well-rounded longitudinal experiences, facilitating consistent, long-term patient care and specialized learning opportunities throughout their training. A key component is our weekly resident continuity clinic, where residents manage a panel of patients throughout the residency, fostering continuity of care and building strong relationships with the community.

Our partnerships with Cooper University Health Care and Nemours Children’s Health allow residents to work in tertiary and specialty care settings. At Cooper, residents gain hands-on experience in the Neurocritical Care Unit and Joint Commission-accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC), further advancing their clinical expertise. These collaborations also provide opportunities to participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects and multi-disciplinary conferences.

Residents also benefit from participation in journal clubs, wellness events and collaborative activities with Cooper’s neurology residency program, which foster camaraderie and enhance the educational experience. These longitudinal opportunities ensure that Inspira residents develop as well-rounded clinicians prepared to meet the diverse needs of their patients.

Inspira Committees

Residents can participate in several committees and initiatives, including the Program Evaluation Committee, Rank Order List Committee and Wellness Committee. Residents are also encouraged to join any regional or national committees sponsored by the various neurological professional societies.
