Inspira Earns ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center Designation

May 18, 2015

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ (April 16, 2015) – Inspira Medical Center Vineland was recently designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation is a voluntary program that recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.

“We are very proud to be recognized by the American College of Radiology with this prestigious designation,” said Michelle Marshall, assistant vice president of Oncology and Women’s Services at Inspira. “Our network offers community members coordinated lung cancer screenings at our medical centers in Vineland and Woodbury. We also provide the community with access to certified tobacco treatment counselors who are available to help people quit smoking once and for all.”

In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in computed tomography (CT) in the chest module, as well as undergo a rigorous assessment of its lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure. Also required are procedures in place for follow-up patient care, such as counseling and smoking cessation programs.

Lung cancer screening with low-dose CT scans, and appropriate follow-up care, has been proven to significantly reduce deaths caused by lung cancer. Lung cancer is the nation’s leading cancer killer—taking the lives of more people each year than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined.

Inspira Health Network’s lung cancer screening program in Vineland and Woodbury is recognized as a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance. Community members who are interested in lung cancer screening, whether it is for them or for a loved one, are encouraged to contact Sandra Murray at (856) 641-8670.
