Risk factors for peripheral artery disease (PAD) include smoking, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and family history of heart disease, stroke or PAD.
For those without these risk factors, vascular screenings should begin around age 65. Those with risk factors should be screened around the age of 50 or earlier.
Vascular disease can be prevented. Smoking cessation, proper nutrition, exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can improve your vascular health.
