MAJOR FUNCTION:  

Assist the Operating Room Nursing Staff in the daily routine of patient care. Must be able to follow directions. Assist the Operating Room Nursing Staff in the daily routine of patient care by picking supplies for each procedure. Assure that the rooms are equipped with all the necessary furniture and machinery required to perform specific procedures. At the end of the day put left over supplies back into their specific areas. Report any broken furniture. Help the nursing staff in the turnover of the rooms.
QUALIFICATION:  
Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma with additional medical assistant training.
  • Previous experience with operating room instrumentation, materials and supplies strongly desired.
  • Experience as a nurse assistant or surgical technician.

Certification/Licensure:

  • N/A

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of OR instrumentation and Operating Room materials and supplies required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs biologicals of the Flash Sterilizers, records the results and reports failures.
  • Performs the initial run of the STERIS Unit to assure, records the results and reports failure.
  • Decontaminates endoscopes and runs them through the STERIS. Upon completion hangs the scope in the warming cabinet.
  • Reads and records specialty room temperatures.
  • Monitors par levels of supplies and reports to Materials Management personnel.
  • Monitors Peel-Packs and reports shortages to Sterile Core Coordinator.
  • Returned unused supplies from cases and returns them to their appropriate location.
  • Report broken equipment to expedite efficient turn-around.
  • Assure that rooms are equipped with all the required furniture and equipment at the end of each shift.
  • Assist the patient teams whenever and wherever possible to provide the highest quality care:
  • Pick cases.
  • Assist with room turn-over.
