Mullica Hill, NJ – Inspira Health and Belleplain Emergency Corps (BEC) announced today the purchase of the emergency corps by Inspira. The agreement was unanimously approved by the boards of both organizations. BEC began providing emergency ambulance services in Belleplain and surrounding communities in 1953, officially incorporating in 1957.
"This is a great arrangement between BEC and Inspira," said BEC Chief William King Sr. "With our country's changing health care system and the COVID pandemic, this was right decision at the right time for our community."
"Inspira is excited to welcome Chief King and the more than 40 Belleplain Emergency Corps employees to the Inspira family," said Amy Mansue, president and CEO of Inspira Health. "Over the years, BEC has earned the respect and trust of the communities it serves by providing professional, compassionate care. They have also brought innovative advancements to EMS services in the region."
Under the new arrangement, Inspira will now provide 9-1-1 ambulance service and interfacility basic life support transport to Dennis Township and Woodbine. It will also expand its non-emergency medical transport services to northern Cape May County, and serve as the dispatching agency for Dennis Township. When a resident calls 9-1-1, they will directly reach an Inspira Health dispatcher. This arrangement follows the innovative model begun by BEC in 2006, when they became the only private organization in New Jersey to own and operate a dispatch center.
"We are committed to inspiring EMS across South Jersey," said Mark Chapman, director of EMS and Ground Transport for Inspira Health. "With BEC joining the Inspira team, we look forward to providing the excellent care and service that the people of Dennis Township, Woodbine and surrounding communities have become accustomed to."
Discussions between the two organizations began almost three years ago. Earlier this year, Inspira announced that it had been contracted to provide 9-1-1 ambulance service to Lower Township, which is also located in Cape May County. Inspira Health currently provides emergency medical services in six South Jersey counties.
BEC has provided approximately 4,000 patient transports per year, including emergency and non-emergency transportation. Inspira EMS and Ground Transport provided approximately 32,000 transports in 2021.
