Mullica Hill, NJ (April 13, 2023) – A generous donation to Inspira Health by Milissa (Missy) and Joe Cosgrove of Mullica Hill will fund programs that directly support patients of the Leading-Edge Cancer Center on Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill’s campus. The donation was prompted by the exceptional care Missy received while being treated for breast cancer.
“No words can describe our gratefulness to the team at Inspira for their care and commitment during my breast cancer journey,” said Missy Cosgrove. “Our gift underscores our trust in the exceptional staff at Inspira, and we hope to instill that same confidence in our fellow neighbors about the care that they can receive close to home.”
In honor of the donation, the Infusion Center at the Leading-Edge Cancer Center was dedicated in the Cosgroves’ name. Chemotherapy, as well as other therapies for cancer and other conditions, is administered in the Infusion Center. The Cosgroves’ have requested that their gift be used to support the physical and mental well-being of patients and families, enhance access by alleviating barriers to care, and ensure access to cutting-edge technology for patients.
Although details are still being worked out, the funding for several programs is being considered, including art therapy sessions for patients and their loved ones. The Cosgroves’ gift will also help patients acquire items such as wigs and prosthetics, and lessen the financial burden of incidental costs such as transportation and prescriptions.
In addition, the Cosgroves’ support of local cancer patients will go beyond their generous donation. The couple openly shares their experience to bring comfort and support to neighbors and friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. They also share their heart-felt appreciation for the oncology team that cared for Missy’s body, mind and soul during months of treatment.
“We are grateful for Missy and Joe’s generous donation to help support Inspira’s cancer services and reduce the burden on patients,” said Amy Mansue, president and CEO of Inspira Health. “Missy’s breast cancer journey is inspiring, and we are privileged to have been at Missy’s side, every step of the way. This gift from the Cosgroves, and their willingness to share their story with others, will have a profound and long-lasting impact on our community.”
Diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2021, Missy made her way to Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill thanks to a recommendation by Dr. Greg Herman, a neighbor and physician on staff at the Mullica Hill hospital. During her first visit, she was delighted to learn that the expertise, technology and support services she wanted were available close to home. With compassionate care from her team at Inspira, and constant support from family and friends, Missy is feeling well, in remission and inspiring others through her story.
Missy participates in the weekly Cancer Support Community New Jersey (formerly Gilda’s Club) meeting, providing insight and support to other patients. She also lifts the spirits of patients and staff when she visits the cancer center. Together with Joe, they have become advocates for the cancer center and entire hospital in their community.
“It brings Joe and I great comfort to help close the gap and offer support to other patients through this donation,” said Missy Cosgrove. “We want others to feel the same compassion and personal attention that we did when I needed care.”
