Read MoreMothers planning to breastfeed receive support from Inspira's mother/baby nurses and lactation consultants, who are trained to support breastfeeding.
“We encourage moms and babies to have skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth, which helps make breastfeeding easier,” says Waverly Lutz, Inspira Gentle Beginnings Midwife. “Even with a C-section, immediate skin-to-skin contact is encouraged whenever possible. After birth, I continue to assist moms with breastfeeding as both the mom and baby settle into a rhythm with nursing.”
Midwives or obstetricians can also track how moms and babies are doing with nursing during post-birth check-ups and help make changes and adjustments as needed. Inspira offers breastfeeding classes as well as a Breastfeeding Support "Warmline" where mothers can call for help with breastfeeding issues, questions and problems. This individual and confidential service is available at (856) 853-2074.
Inspira professionals are here to help mothers having trouble with latching on, painful nursing situations, trouble producing enough or too much milk, or if the baby is not gaining weight. Call your provider immediately if one of your breasts has swelling or redness, feels warm to touch or is painful/burning and/or you have flu-like symptoms with a fever.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter for as long as mother and baby desire. In addition to having benefits for a baby, breastfeeding is also beneficial to mom's health.
