Inspira Achieves National Accreditation for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Feb 18, 2016

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ (April 18, 2016) – Inspira Medical Center Vineland’s bariatric surgery program has received accreditation as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). National accreditation has been held by the Cumberland County-based weight loss surgery program for the past decade.

“Accreditation as a Comprehensive Center means that patients seeking surgical treatment for severe obesity and its related conditions have a high quality choice for receiving treatment,” said Ahmed Attia, D.O., medical director of bariatric surgery at Inspira Vineland. “As a nationally accredited program, our physicians and staff maintain the highest standards for patient safety and quality care.”

To earn the MBSAQIP designation, Inspira’s program met essential criteria for staffing, training, and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients with severe obesity. The MBSAQIP Standards ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success.

“At Inspira, our multidisciplinary team provides each patient with education and support before and after surgery to help them prepare for the procedure as well as life after surgery,” said Susan Shropshire, R. N., bariatric program coordinator at Inspira Vineland. “We do this through preoperative classes, nutrition counseling, support groups and exercise education.”

MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
